Thu, 12 October 2006 The reason this is so late is that it's so late. Make sense? Basically, I had plans to just take a week off in August and come back with a season ender. Then the next week came and I just couldn't work myself up to it, because at that point I really felt like there would be no more City of Stories, and I didn't really want to say "good bye." I could write a long post about why the 'cast didn't work out, but really, I'm probably the only one who cares. FWIW, I'm actually on a hiatus from the game as well. Now for the good news. Mint Condition Studios is not going away, and I'm going back to podcasting. You heard me talk about wanting to get beyond the CoX only world of City of Stories, as it was limiting the podcast and me personally. Additionally, it was a lot of work to produce a solo show once a week. So this week we're recording the pilot for a show I'm producing and co-hosting, a new podcast called theScrape which will be a news scan and personality podcast. Think somewhere between Diggnation, Wingin It and TWiT. The pilot for that show will hopefully go out on this feed in the next week or so, and hopefully I'll have a website at "theScrape.com" soon. The fact that the show will be all ours (no NCSoft/Cryptic IP to worry about) also means that we can market it and accept sponsors and/or other compensations if we need to to make up for the long hours we'll be working on it. Stories always had to walk that fine line waiting for a Cease and Desist from the IP nazis. Alright, so there it is. Thanks for your patience, sorry I wasn't able to explain sooner and I hope you enjoy theScrape as much as you enjoyed City of Stories. In fact I hope you enjoy it more, tell all your friends, and help us build the audience to levels we only dreamed of with Stories. Category: general -- posted at: 9:49 AM Comments[20] |

Tue, 8 August 2006 Warning! The commentary for this weeks show includes belching and the phrase "di*k jokes". I'm still trying to figure out if that raises or lowers the level of the podcast. Yes,
that's right kiddies, it's City of Stories time again, and I'm a lazy bum. Instead of putting together a new story,
we're reaching back to Issue 4 for one of my favorites, Occam's Razor by Plasma
Stream. Also this week we've got Pez
with the Newswire and my review of Talledega Nights: the Legend of Ricky
Bobby. It's this last segment that
contains the aforementioned belching and other things. Please note that I'm not MAKING "di*k

Tue, 25 July 2006 I'm not getting a full show out this week. If I get some extra time tomorrow, I'll try to get Pez's newswire and a quick update out. Here's what's going on. My car died and I'm in the middle of a cruch time at work. So I've been working in the mornings, spending the afternoon car hunting and back to work at night. So I bought a new car, and things should settle down soon. Mint Category: General Posts -- posted at: 9:45 PM Comments[12] |

Wed, 28 June 2006 Hey all. Sorry for the delay but I hope it was worth the wait. This week we've got PsychoPez with the newswire, a great story from Miss Nox and a cool little song from Ash Verjee (again), courtesy of music.podshow.com.
So the reason the show is late this week is pretty cool. This week was my Sho Dan (black belt) test. Our Sho Dan testing process is pretty intense and I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to make it, which is why I didn't really say too much about it before. But I did, and in the closing this week I spend some time talking about it. I think it's a pretty good listen, and, well, it's a pretty big deal to me.
Lastly, there are a few things that you might notice as you listen to the show. First off, the opening says there are two stories, there aren't. Only the one Can't Stay Away. The second one didn't record as well as I'd hoped and I didn't have time to re-record. I'll include it in another show, as it deals with Miss Nox and Abhorent as well. Also, the addition of Kamikaze Eyes by Ash Verjee as bumper music was a post production decision so it's not mentioned in the cast either. But it is here in the show notes.
So with all that out of the way it's story time!

Tue, 13 June 2006 Alright everyone! Welcome back. Well, you didn't go anywhere, but I did. I took a marvelous cruise to the land of "Oh my God, I can't believe how sick I am! Stab me in the eye with a spoon and make me feel better." Ever been there? It's a little island right off the coast of "Please please let me die now-istan". Yeah, I had the flu, in a big way. Fever, chills, the whole nine yards. Good, in that I got to play CoH and watch most of the entire series of Buffy in order, bad in that, well…. I didn't feel well? Hey, might have been a decent trade off. Oh and I watched Firefly again, yay. So, hmmm……
Alright, on to this weeks show. I mentioned it in the podcast, but I'm running out of stories. Consider this a plea for submissions. Without them, there is no show, so get it in gear people and send me your stuff and links to things you like.
This week, we've got a story from Anthony Harte called "A Simple Ending". Good stuff. And a song from an Aussie band called Man Bited God. And retraction time: in the closing I call them Man Bites Dog…. That's incorrect, it's Man Bites God. Hey, it was almost 2AM when I recorded that, huh? Also, you get my sorta review of X-Men III and a week off from the newswire, so let's get to it!

Mon, 8 May 2006 Hey, everyone! Issue 12 of City of Stories is up and ready for download. This week our story is an excellent one by Elysienne. It's the introduction to the Elysienne Origin, and it's called "To Stand", but I like to think of it as "All the Little Angels".
Well, between my allergies kicking in halfway through recording and a pretty awful cockney accent… I apologize in advance. I think the story makes up for it. Also, we've got a continuation of the IP discussion from last week and a hands on look at Issue 7. Get ready, it's showtime. 0:10

Anyway, I'm still wiped from the trip, my wonderful travel agent decided that having me fly back at 11pm with a connection in Charlotte was a good idea. Only not so much since I don't sleep on airplanes. Anyway, no show this week, sorry. I'm also getting REALLY low on short stories. I'm working on one myself, but it looks like it's going to be a long one. I'm desperately seeking new material. Tue, 28 March 2006 Hey everyone! Issue 7 is better late than never! Post production was a little rushed, so if there are any screw-ups, I'm sorry in advance. First of all, we've got an excellent little story from PlasmaStream, which is actually the introduction to her longer work "Impact Wave". I really liked this one for its creative use of second person. Following that, we have a long but very useful feature segment: the CoX Fan Fiction Writers Clinic. Basically over the past months I've read a TON of fiction that is very good, but needs just a touch to make it great. That's understandable, given that few of you are professional writers and it may have been a while since High School creative writing classes. Anyway, this segment gives you a good place to start and can also be a good refresher for even some of us with an old hand at writing. I hope you get something out of it. Stay tuned. We've got something pretty special planned for next week. Mon, 27 March 2006 But no worries, I've hit the hospital and I'll be back in the fight very soon. In other words, I'm going to miss the Monday release target for Issue 7. Sorry, folks. =( I'm pretty sure that I'll get everything done and have the episode posted Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. The only question will be if I have time Monday night to do the recording I need to do to make a Tuesday release. If not I'm sure I'll be able to do it Tues night and release Wed. So hang in there. Issue 7 will be the introduction to PlasmaStream's IMPACT WAVE and Part I of the CoX Fiction Writers Clinic. It will be a longer show so well worth the wait, I hope!
In other news, the show is available on iTunes now! YAY! And seemingly because of that, the numbers have gone through the roof. If you're an iTunes listener, let me know, I'm really amazed at how simply being on iTunes directory has made the numbers spike, so drop me a line at cityofstories@gmail.com.
That's it for now. See you Tuesday (or Wed... Category: General Posts -- posted at: 1:45 AM Comments[3] |

Sat, 4 March 2006 Sorry folks! There's going to be a short delay in Issue four. It's mostly done, but I'm on vacation this weekend, taking the family to Colonial Williamsburg. I'll be back Sunday night and hopefully will have the show up by Monday Morning. I was hoping to have all the editing and mixing done so I could release Friday night, but it just didn't work out, and we were out reviewing Ultraviolet (Oh... it was woeful. Catch the review and discussion shows at http://www.moviesurvivalguide.com.)
Anyway, thanks for checking, See you Monday with Issue 4!
